The 5th Annual Mesa Latino Town Hall serves as a vehicle to bring together the community to discuss issues affecting Latinos in Mesa as well as catalyst to creating positive change.

Economic Development

Should Latino business persons and community groups establish an East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce organization? Based upon this panel discussion, participants will be asked to provide input and assist in the establishment of an East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The Economic Development Track will also discuss the status of the following economic initiatives: The Annual Hispanic/Small Business Symposium; The Small Business Development Center; The status of a proposed day labor center in Mesa and the Remodeling/Rehabilitation of the Alston House as a community center.

Neighborhoods

Join in this panel presentation and learn about the available resources to assist Mesa's neighborhoods.  This workshop will include a question and answer session with newly appointed Assistant Chief of Police John Meza.

Leadership

Two sessions in the leadership workshop will be offered this year.  Join potential City of Mesa council candidates for a discussion of current issues affecting our community.  Join us in congratulating recent graduates from a citizenship class. 

Education – Parents

Discipline That Works

Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive program based on brain research that teaches parents, and all adults, to develop a healthy positive relationship with children.   Join Marlena Davis, certified Conscious Discipline trainer for this bilingual workshop on discipline that works.

Education – Teachers

Effective Strategies: Working with English Language Learners

This interactive session is for educators and will focus on teaching strategies to address the needs of our growing population of English language learners.   Guest speaker Dr. Isabel Baca, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas El Paso, will lead this professional development opportunity.

Education – Administrators

Evidence Based Pipeline Programs: Keys to Latino/a Student Success

Education administrators from K-12 to community college are invited to join Dr. Frank Sanchez, Vice-Chancellor of Enrollment and Student Engagement at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Science Center for this informative session. 

11:45 -12:15  Track Reports & Awards Ceremony

Hear an update on work that took place in each track session including action plans for the coming year.    Honor Mesa's outstanding community leaders for their dedication to making a positive difference for Mesa's Latino community.

12:15 – 1:30 Lunch, Entertainment, Expo

Stroll through our expo tents and learn about the many non-profit agencies, health organizations and businesses that serve our community. Don't miss out on the great food and even better company, as we conclude our 6 th annual Mesa Latino Town Hall!
